TEAM LAS VEGAS

Does Las Vegas have Chefs who can compete in world wide competition and win?  You betcha we do!  In the fall of 2003, we set out to prove our town and our Organization offers skilled chefs able to compete on the International circuit of Culinary Competition. There are only a handful of cities in the United States who have ventured into this territory, but with our spectacular growth over the last ten years in Culinary diversity, we felt a team from Las Vegas would showcase our talents to the world. Our Team Las Vegas headed for the Culinary Olympics in Germany in October 2004 with Team Coach, Chef John Hui, CEPC, , Team advisors David Kelloway and Raymond Hoffmeister, and Team Members William Becker, Pete Ghione, Peter Sherlock, Kathy Donaho-Wessman, and Richard Han.  They won 9 silver medals and ranked 20th in the world.  We are extremely proud of our Team’s performance but know that 2012 presents an even larger challenge of surpassing the 2004’s accomplishments. 

What are the Culinary Olympics?

This event was founded in 1896 by a group of German chefs who envisioned an international cooking event that would cross language barriers and communicate world trends in cuisine.  This dream became a reality at the turn of the century, in 1900, with four nations competing in a local cooking contest at the Frankfurt fairgrounds, and today the World Association of Cooks Societies (WACS) approved event is so large it has been dubbed the ‘Culinary Olympics’. The success of this concept has caused a ripple effect throughout the culinary world, encouraging the growth of other international competitions which now take place on every continent and have made significant contributions to the global food industry.

Requirements

•     Become a member of the ACF Chefs Las Vegas
•     A resident of Clark County
•     Commit to monthly team practice and team events
•     Commit to traveling and promoting team
•     Must have a current US passport
•     A commitment letter from employer in support of your team involvement

The Culinary Olympics (IKA HOGA) is a gathering of — or more than — one thousand cooks and confectioners from 33 countries. Over 115 national and regional teams and about 300 individual exhibitors competed at the 2000 Culinary Olympics held in Germany every four years.

There is nothing like a well-executed plan. We came up with the idea of Team Las Vegas, implemented it and now look at the results.
